Nissan has donated a new, Titan Pro-4x truck to the local charity ECO, Inc. (Environmental Concerns Organization) that runs the Recycling Association of Maricopa (RAM) and other environmental projects. ECO, Inc. Executive Director Gina D’Abella accepted the donation from Anita MacFadden, Senior Manager of the Nissan Technical Center North America, ATC Business and Vehicle Test Operations in Stanfield, Arizona, and members of the Stanfield facility’s “Green Team.”

Periodically, as they are available, Nissan donates vehicles to charities at the request of Nissan employees. MacFadden, in gratitude to ECO and D’Abella for their assistance in setting up their local company recycling program in 2009, made the request. MacFadden had learned that ECO’s truck was in constant need of repair and was 15 years old.

D’Abella also provided assistance in helping Nissan dispose of obsolete computer equipment and other materials. MacFadden stated that D’Abella’s assistance “made a big difference for Nissan.”

ECO and D’Abella also donated time to contribute to an onsite recycling fair for Nissan in 2010.

The donation took five months to process before Nissan could hand over the keys to D’Abella and her two ECO, Inc. board members, Jill Worley and Angel Abella. Nissan was also generous in providing a full tank of gas for the new truck. The truck included the Nissan’s “Utili-track cargo carrying system,” featuring channels in the bed floor, along the walls and in the header, and includes aluminum-alloy cleats for positioning along the tracks to strap down cargo.

How the truck will be used

The Recycling Association of Maricopa often provides transport for items that people want to donate or dispose of at the recycling center’s Maricopa location at 46250 West McDavid Road. In addition, ECO, Inc. provides periodic desert clean ups. D’Abella estimates that she has supervised the collection of nearly 10,000 tires dumped in the desert as well as other trash in 2011 alone. Their telephone number is (520) 568-9428.

RAM was established 15 years ago and has provided a location where residents can recycle glass, metal, tires, household hazardous waste, and cardboard.

Nissan’s role in Arizona

The Stanfield Nissan location is responsible for testing of vehicles in development for Nissan North American. They were recently responsible for Nissan’s new hybrid vehicle, the Leaf.

The Arizona Testing Center makes excellent use of their land by making the center of the test track and edge of their test facility available to farmers for growing crops. This is doubly useful as it keeps down dust.

Nissan’s Stanfield location has openings in current research and development positions and periodically hires test drivers. See www.Nissan.jobs
