Bashas' Family of Stores Collects Monetary Donations for The Salvation Army's Emergency Assistance Program for Veterans -- Customers can donate at the register this month to Help Veterans at Home

ARIZONA -- When troops come back from Iraq, they're facing a whole new set of challenges at home. At the top of the list (with PTSD) is the ability to find employment and to stay employed. According to the Army, the national unemployment rate for Iraq and Afghanistan War Veterans was 12.1 percent at the end of 2011, about 50 percent higher than the rate for nonveteran civilians. As a result, thousands of military families are facing foreclosure, eviction, and other financial difficulties.

To help local Veterans in need, Arizona residents are invited to purchase a special Salvation Army yellow ribbon at any AJ's, Bashas' or Food City grocery store during the month of July. All donations made at the register will provide emergency food boxes, rental and utility assistance, and other social services for Arizona Veterans who need it the most.

"The Salvation Army is very grateful to Bashas' Family of Stores for allowing its stores to serve as outlets to support our Veterans," said Lt. Colonel Joe Posillico, Southwest Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army. "These donations will allow The Salvation Army to continue Doing the Most Good in our community."

The "Help Veterans at Home" drive runs now through Tuesday, July 31 at all 126 Bashas', Food City, and AJ's locations in Arizona.

"We're delighted to partner with The Salvation Army and US Airways to support our hometown heroes," said Kristy Jozwiak, Director of Communications for Bashas' Family of Stores. "We're looking forward to doing our part to improve the lives of our local veterans. After all the sacrifices they've made to protect the freedoms we enjoy, it's the least we can do."
