Monday, June 4, 2012
Gold Canyon, AZ -- This afternoon at 4:55 P.M., PInal County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) deputies were called to a home in the 17000 block of Paseo Del Canto, Gold Canyon, on a report of a child drowning. A PCSO deputy who arrived first on scene found a 27-year-old father performing CRP on his 3-year-old son. The deputy immediately took over and resumed life saving measures.
Units with Apache Junction Fire also responded and helped with life saving measures. The child was blue in color and was not responsive.
The toddler was transported to Arizona Regional Hospital by Apache Junction Fire where doctors were able to establish a faint pulse. The child was then flown to Cardon Children's Medica Center in Mesa where he remains in extremely critical condition.
According to the father, the two were visiting the child's grandparents' home to swim when he left the child to use the bathroom. The child was outside with a Labrador retriever when he somehow fell into the water.
There is a protective safety fence around the pool, however the entrance was found left open. The father claims he was only away for approximately two minutes.
The investigation is ongoing.
