MPD to Participate in Memorial Day Weekend DUI Task Force with Grant Funding Provided from the Governors Office Of Highway Safety

MARICOPA, AZ -- The City of Maricopa Police Department (MPD) will be participating in DUI saturation patrols from Friday, May 25 through Saturday, May 26 as part of the Pinal County Regional DUI Task Force. Efforts will be directed at detecting and arresting drivers impaired by alcohol and/or drugs. Several officers with specialized training in DUI detection will be assigned to work enforcement details around the Queen Creek area. Police officers from Pinal County Sheriffs Office, Casa Grande, Coolidge, and Eloy are scheduled to attend. The saturation patrols will begin each night and run until the early morning hours.

The funding for this event and others MPD has hosted  or participated in was made possible by a grant awarded from the Governors Office Of Highway Safety (GOHS). The
grant covers overtime and allows MPD to participate in task forces throughout Pinal County. The partnership between GOHS and MPD has lead to MPD participating in over
30 holiday DUI task forces. MPD accounts for over 5% of total shifts worked and over 15% of both traffic stops and total DUI arrests for the present grant year from November
2011 to present day. MPD is proud to partner with GOHS in this important endeavor to stop drunk drivers.

Please remember that .08 is over the “legal limit” however consuming any amount of alcohol or drugs that would impair your driving is also considered being under the
influence. If you plan on drinking, please use a designated driver or arrange for alternative transportation. For more information on GOHS please visit their website at

If you plan to drink over the holiday, you should also plan to have a designated driver.
