"Why is this Kyrene bus in Maricopa?"
Letter
Monday, April 30, 2012
Dear Marilyn,
In your article "Why is this Kyrene bus in Maricopa" on Friday April 6, 2012 (see the article at http://www.copanews.com/Article.aspx?ID=3614), you made some statements that I would like to clarify.
To answer the question, "why was it there?" It was on a field trip taking elementary students to the university test farm a little out of town.
"Taking up several parking spots," yes it was, but it was parked in a spot that it neither impeded traffic nor other parking spots. There were hundreds of open spaces closer to the businesses.
Now the statement that "several people were shaking their heads" gives a negative connotation that somehow the bus should not have been there. I fully realize that this opening paragraph was to entice the reader to continue reading your article, but that statement is one that I find hard to accept because of my prior statement as to its position in the parking lot.
To clarify one last statement, you stated that it "was by the Jack-in-the Box." That statement may lead the reader to think the driver was eating at the Jack-in-the-Box. I can attest to the fact that the driver was not then -- or ever will be -- seen eating Jack-in-the-Box food, for I was the driver of the bus. I was eating at a small cafe in the strip mall that had very nice waitresses and served an excellent breakfast. I don't recall the name, but I am sure that you can find it and I would give all your readers and yourself a recommendation that they try it out
Sincerely,
William Harrell

The infamous "Kyrene bus" was in Fry's parking lot.
