Maricopa, AZ -- Xpressions Center for the Arts has created Maricopa’s first ever arts-based education center for children. The Childrens
Art Academy will be a year round arts-based education program for ages 2-5. Children will be taught Reading, Mathematics, Science, Sign Language, and Spanish through Cheerleading, Dance, Tumbling, Art, Music, Theater, and Martial Arts.
Its purpose is to ignite a child’s passion for the arts, and foster creativity and critical thinking skills through artistic and musical expression. The Academic year will begin August 6th and registration is currently available at Xpressions. There will be limited enrollment to keep a low student to faculty ratio. Tuition and class schedule information is available online at www.Xpressionscfa.com.
The Xpressions Childrens Theater is announcing its first season! The goal of the theater is to educate children in acting, dancing, and
vocal technique while building life skills including confidence and responsibility. The Childrens Theater is for ages four to 18 with some opportunities for adults in specific roles. They will perform four shows each year: two musicals, a Christmas musical, and a play. Each
show will be a 10-week session children can register for. All children will be in the production but auditions will be held to determine specific parts.
The 2012-2013 Theater season will be:
- Seussical Jr: A delight for children to perform, SEUSSICAL is now one of the most-performed shows in America! In this fantastical,
magical, musical extravaganza, Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (LUCKY STIFF, MY FAVORITE YEAR, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, and RAGTIME) have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination -- Jojo. "Oh, the Thinks You Can Think" captures the show's spirit of imagination, as the colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.
- The Christmas Shoes: One of the biggest songs for Christmas in America over recent years has been the song “Christmas Shoes” from the contemporary Christian group NewSong. This song climbed the Billboard charts to become #1 in just three weeks. It is with this success that Benson Music Publishing is proud to bring to you The Christmas Shoes, A Dramatic Musical for Christmas. Donna VanLiere, who adapted this script from her St. Martin's Press novel, also titled Christmas Shoes, has crafted this theatrical production, based upon the story behind the song “Christmas Shoes.” The drama takes you through the lives of two families. One family, the Layton's, have all the resources and wealth they need, but still find something missing in their lives. The second family, the Andrew's, do not have much to give at Christmas, but they have each other and a house full of love. Come see how the
innocent love of a child buying Christmas shoes for his critically ill mother changes the heart of a “Grinch.”
- The Adventures of Robin Hood: Robin and his Merry Band are looking for an opportunity to perform their usual daring, dashing deeds in their customary fun-loving fashion. When they encounter Alfred the Saxon, who alerts them that the nasty and nefarious Sheriff is about to collect taxes (again!) in the nearby village of Edwinstowe, they immediately don disguises (they are very fond of disguises!), and dash into town.
- Annie Jr. The upbeat plot and flamboyant characters have made ANNIE one of the most beloved musicals in history -- what girl hasn't dreamed of performing the title role or playing the outrageous Miss Hannigan?
Show dates and times are available on the Xpressions Childrens Theater website. Registration will be limited to the first 80 students and
is available online now. Xpressions is located at the corner of Casa Grande Highway and Murphy Rd, four miles east of Walmart. For
