In my boots: Spring cleaning
Shelley Gillespie

In my younger days, I can't say that I ever truly craved exercise. Being a Couch Potato, that would have been extremely far from the truth.

In recent years, I have established a regular routine of exercising in some form every day. As a result, it seemed especially hard to handle the inactivity in recent weeks when I was laid low by the flu. All my muscles ached and I couldn't breathe.

So, it felt joyful to be on the road to recovery and finally able to breathe without coughing. Back at the gym for a rigorous workout, the first day didn't go quite as well as I'd hoped. Cough-cough! And no, 'rigorous' would not be the word to describe my workout. It was more like a meltdown, with my legs turning to jelly!

Regrouping and getting a good night's sleep, the Couch Potato was finally able to begin activity on a more normal scale. And now, with probably the last few weeks of heavenly Arizona weather, it is time to get out!

Getting the cobwebs out and getting all aspects of my life tuned up, I'm doing my annual best to rid myself of items that are not needed. Is this a difficult task? Absolutely! As a confirmed packrat, I find it especially difficult to part with things that might be useful -- and you never know what might be useful!

Whenever I finally do toss or recycle something, it always seems that we finally needed it within a few weeks of disposing of the item.

It felt like an 'ah ha' moment when a box of assorted papers that we had meant to dispose of turned out to be the key to claiming money that the State of Florida said we were owed. Amazingly, it was not a scam.

Those assorted papers were the key to claiming the largesse! Does that confirm my desire to save things? Yes, sadly it does. But it is time to clear out, clean out, and get out!

Hiking trails -- beware! I haven't decided which ones, but I'll be tying up my hiking boots and gathering my gear to make a visit. Be kind to me! I've missed you!

And, while I'm out hiking, I can procrastinate on which of the many files and odd and ends that I've accumulated need to be tossed. I'll get to the tossing -- I really will! But, I really do enjoy a good hike!
