Theft suspect arrested after pursuit

Maricopa, AZ -- On January 8, 2012 at approximately 12:10 A.M., City of Maricopa police (MPD) responded to the Circle K at 21212 N. John Wayne Parkway on a theft complaint. The complainant reported that a male subject entered the store and stole approximately $400 worth of Arizona Lottery tickets. The complainant provided a physical description of the suspect and stated the suspect fled the scene in a red pickup
truck westbound on SR 238. Ak-Chin police officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle travelling westbound on SR 238 and attempted to stop the vehicle near mile post #39.
MPD patrol and canine units responded to assist Ak-Chin officers. While attempting to stop the suspect’s vehicle, it continued to flee westbound on SR 238. A pursuit ensued and after the deployment of vehicle compliance measures, came to a stop near mile post
#32. The suspect was taken into custody and the stolen lottery tickets were recovered at the scene.
The suspect, 32-year-old Edward Matthew Schrader II of Tucson, was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail. Schrader was charged with fleeing, shoplifting, and resisting arrest. Schrader has an extensive record including drug charges, assault, and theft dating back to 1997.
