MPD recaps a successful Black Friday weekend
Received from Maricopa Police Department

MARICOPA, AZ -- During Thanksgiving weekend, the City of Maricopa Police Department (MPD) participated in Black Friday activities in the community. MPD stationed the Command Center in the parking lot of Walmart and provided tours of the Center and its functions.

Staff and volunteers collected donations of nonperishable items to be presented to FOR Maricopa, the local nonprofit food bank. Thanks to the outstanding generosity of the community, over 1,000 pounds of food and more than $150 were delivered to the Command Center. MPD gave over 80 tours of the Command Center to residents throughout the weekend.

“It was an outstanding show of support from the community,” said Police Chief Steve Stahl. “On numerous occasions, citizens would stop by before they began their shopping to ask if we needed any particular item. They were just happy to be able to stop by, say hello, and help a great nonprofit organization.”

During the time that the Command Center was located at Walmart, there were no criminal incidents reported to have occurred in the outside areas of the shopping center.
