Maricopa, AZ -- Chairman Louis J. Manuel, Jr., members of the Ak-Chin Indian Community Tribal Council as well as representatives from the Community’s theatre operator and design/build team broke ground on a 162,000-square-foot family entertainment complex during a traditional tribal ceremony held on Tuesday, November 15, 2011.

The Complex will be located directly north of Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino Resort and will feature a 12-screen movie theater and a 24-lane bowling alley and is expected to be complete in November 2012. The Complex includes an arcade, laser tag and restaurants, as well as an outdoor amphitheater. About 22,000-square-feet of retail space will be available near the Complex.

Owned by the Ak-Chin Indian Community, the Complex will be managed by UltraStar Cinemas and is being designed by Nelsen Partners and constructed by A.R. Mays Construction.

“The Ak-Chin Indian Community is pleased to bring family entertainment like this to Pinal County. This tribal council and others before us have long known the importance of providing opportunities like this to our Community and the surrounding areas,” said Chairman Manuel.

With an estimated $437 million in direct or indirect monies generated each year on behalf of the Ak-Chin Community, the economic impact created during the construction phase as well as what is anticipated once the Complex is open will only further benefit the City of Maricopa and Pinal County as well as the tribe.

In addition to the Complex, the Ak-Chin Indian Community also owns Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino Resort, the Santa Cruz Commerce Center, Ak-Chin Farms and Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club, and operates the Ak-Chin Him Dak Eco-Museum, the first of its kind in America. The Him-Dak is a place where objects of the past are conserved and shared. The Him-Dak hosts two yearly celebrations: the annual Him-Dak Celebration held in April and the Native American Recognition Day Celebration held in September.
