Breaking news: Morning rains flood Hidden Valley crossings
E. M. Murray

This morning's much needed rain only amounted to a half an inch in the Hidden Valley area, but more rain to the south has caused Vekol Wash (which runs northward) to flood roadways in the Hidden Valley area.

Among the roads closed by flooding are W. Val Vista Rd. south of N. Warren Rd. and N. Ralston Rd. north of W. Papago Rd.  At this time, Pinal County has NOT gotten the "road closed" signs out yet.

W. Val Vista is approximately 70 feet wide at this time, and is estimated to be about a foot and a half deep in the center.  While Ralston Rd. is only about 30 feet across, the water is moving very rapidly, causing white caps and "mountains" in the water where it is striking barriers such as the bank.

While the water in the washes may only appear to be a few inches deep, remember, it only takes six inches of running water to wash your vehicle -- and you -- away.  Don't set yourself up for a ticket under the "Stupid Motorist Law" -- or risk your life and those of your loved ones by trying to cross a flooded wash.

After admiring the unusual view on N. Ralston Road, this driver wisely turned around. The "mountains" of water are visible here.
